Change your photo
Every member with a profile can add photos, choose which one other members see, and remove photos. Nothing on the photo says it can be tapped, but it can.
To add a photo:
-
On My Profile, tap your photo at the top. If you have not added one, tap the placeholder picture.
-
In the Photos window, tap the + at the top of the window. If you have no photos yet, tap Upload Now instead.
-
In the Add Photo window, tap Browse and choose one or more pictures.
-
Tap Upload.
The window closes and your photo card updates. If you had no photos before, the first one you add becomes your default photo.
To choose which photo other members see:
- Tap your photo to open the Photos window.
- Under the picture you want, tap Set Default.
The picture marked Current Default is the one other members see.
To remove a photo:
- Tap your photo to open the Photos window.
- Under the picture you want to remove, tap Delete.
- Confirm when the box asks if you are sure.
If you delete your default photo, Connect picks another of your photos as the default. To bring a deleted photo back, upload it again.
Other members see your default photo only when Show My Photo is on under In Connect. They see it on your member page and next to your name in search results. See Choose what other members can see.
Edit your Bio Data
The Bio Data card holds personal details about you. Other members never see this card. They do not see your birth date, gender, occupation or spouse details.
To change your details:
- On My Profile, find the Bio Data card.
- Tap the pencil icon in the card heading.
- In the Edit Bio window, change what you need.
- Tap Save.
The window closes and the Bio Data card shows your changes.
You can change these details:
- your preferred name. The form reminds you to include your last name.
- your birth date, in the form mm/dd/yyyy
- your birth city and birth country
- your gender: Unspecified, Male, Female or Other
- your occupation
- your spouse's first name and preferred name
- your spouse's birth day, in the form mm/dd
What only your secretary can change
You cannot change these from Connect:
- your name, including any prefix or suffix
- your member number
- your years of good standing (YGS)
- your member type, your local groups and your dues
- whether you are an Assisted Living/Nursing Facility Resident
If one of these is wrong, ask your secretary to correct it. The card says the same at the bottom: "If there is an error in your information please contact your local secretary or parent group."
Update your contact details
The Contact Info card lists your addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. Your changes take effect as soon as you tap Save.
To add a contact detail:
- On My Profile, find the Contact Info card.
- Tap the menu icon (three short lines) in the card heading.
- Tap what you want to add, such as Add Primary Cell, Add Primary Email or Add Work Address.
- In the Add Contact Info window, fill in the details and tap Save.
The list shows only what you can add right now. Details you already have do not appear. Work, shipping, snowbird and correspondence addresses appear after you have a home address on file.
To change a contact detail:
- Tap the pencil icon next to the entry.
- In the Edit Contact Info window, make your changes.
- Tap Save.
To deactivate a contact detail:
- Tap the red circle with a minus sign next to the entry.
- Read the box that opens and confirm.
You cannot deactivate your home address. You can edit it. When you deactivate a work, snowbird, shipping or correspondence address, the box may list phone numbers that go with it and say they will be deactivated too. To bring a detail back, add it again from the menu.
Who sees your contact details depends on your privacy switches. See Choose what other members can see.
Read your memberships and payments
These cards are for reading only. You cannot change anything in them.
My Local Memberships lists your active memberships in local groups that appear in Connect.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Local | The local group. Tap its name to open its page. |
| Member Type | Your type of membership in that local group. |
| Paid Through | The latest year of dues you have paid there, or N/A if none is recorded. |
| Dues Category | Your dues category and its amount in parentheses. |
| Dues Owed | What you owe. |
My Payments lists payments recorded for you. Each row shows the Date, who the payment went To, and the Amount with what it was for in parentheses. For dues, the year is included.
To pay dues or make a donation, see Pay Your Dues or Make a Donation. If a payment you made is not listed, contact your secretary with your payment email or bank record.
My Offices shows the office, the group, and the date you were Installed.
Data Sharing History appears only in some organizations, below the other cards, and only after another organization has looked up your membership status or asked for a certificate of good standing. Each row shows the date, what happened, whether an officer reviewed it, and who to contact.
If you don't see this. A membership is missing from My Local Memberships when it is not active, or when that local group is not shown in Connect. Ask your secretary.
Choose what other members can see
The groupable|connect Privacy Settings card has five rows of switches. Each row has two columns, In Connect and Publicly.
On a phone, scroll down to the card.
To change a switch:
- Find the row you want, for example Show My Phone.
- Tap the switch in the In Connect column.
Connect saves your choice right away and shows the message "Privacy settings have been saved". There is no Save button. To undo a change, tap the same switch again.
What each switch does under In Connect
In Connect means other members who are logged in to Connect. Your secretary and other officers can still see your record, whatever these switches say.
| Switch | When it is on |
|---|---|
| Show My Photo | Other members see your default photo on your member page and in search results. |
| Show My Name | Other members can find you in search and open your member page. Your name appears on the Officers and Past Officers pages for offices the group lists on its website, and in the Attendees list on events. You can comment. |
| Show My Phone | Your phone numbers show on your member page. |
| Show My Address | Your mailing addresses show on your member page. |
| Show My Email | Your email addresses show on your member page. |
Your member page is only reachable by search, so if Show My Name is off, other members cannot find it. It also lists your local groups, member types and offices, and no switch hides them. See See what other members see.
What the Publicly column does
Only one switch under Publicly changes anything today, and that is Show My Name. It decides whether your name appears on the Officers page of a group to visitors who are not logged in. You appear there only if you hold an office that the group lists on its website.
The other switches under Publicly are saved, but they do not show anything to anyone at this time. This covers Show My Photo, Show My Phone, Show My Address and Show My Email.
A Publicly switch can be turned on only while its In Connect switch is on. When you turn an In Connect switch off, its Publicly switch turns off with it and turns grey. Turn In Connect back on and then switch Publicly on again if you want it.
Your member status code
The privacy switches do not control the status check page that opens when someone scans your Share Member Status code. That page shows your first name, your last initial and your status. For more, see Show Your Membership.
See what other members see
You can open your own member page the way another member sees it.
This works when your organization has member search turned on, when you hold an active membership, and when Show My Name is on under In Connect.
- Tap the search box at the top of the page. When member search is on, it says Find a group or member.
- Type at least three letters of your name.
- Under Members, tap your name.
Your page opens with the note "This is how other members of Connect see you." Tap Privacy Settings in that note to go back to your switches.
The page shows:
- your name and, if you have one, your preferred name
- your photo, if Show My Photo is on
- your local groups and member types
- your current offices that the group lists on its website, with the group and the date you were installed
- your phone numbers, email addresses and mailing addresses, each only if its switch is on
If no contact details are shared, the page says "This member has not shared contact details."
If you don't see this. If the search box says only Find a group, member search is turned off for your organization. Ask your secretary. Only Groupable can change this setting, and your secretary can ask on your organization's behalf. By default, members can find other members of their own local groups.
If Show My Name is off, you do not appear in the results. That is also how other members experience it: they cannot find you.
Show My Name and commenting
To comment on news or events, Show My Name must be on under In Connect. The star next to Show My Name means "Required to comment." Comments appear with your name, so Connect needs your permission to show it.
When Show My Name is on, a box for writing a comment appears under news and events that allow comments, headed "Posting as" and your name. To learn how to comment, see Use Your Group's Page.
When you turn Show My Name off:
- Connect shows the message "You can no longer comment and any past comments will be hidden".
- You can still read comments, but the box for writing one does not appear.
When you turn it on, Connect shows the message "You can now comment".
If you don't see this. If Show My Name is on and you still see no box to write a comment, comments may be turned off for that item. A note says so. Ask your secretary if you think this is a mistake.
Good to know
- You can change any privacy switch back at any time.
- Show My Address started out off for members who were already in Connect when the switch was added. Turn it on under In Connect if you want other members to see your address.
- My Profile has no place to change your password or username. For help, see Get Started with Connect.
