Which keyboard shortcuts does M2 have?
M2 has ten shortcuts. To use one, hold down Ctrl and Alt (on a Mac, Ctrl and Option), then press the letter. On a Mac, the Keyboard Shortcuts screen shows the Option key as ⌥. The search shortcut is the / key by itself.
Ctrl + Alt + P, Ctrl + Alt + V, and Ctrl + Alt + B work only when you're in a local group role. The others are set up in every M2 role.
| Shortcut | Name on the Keyboard Shortcuts screen | The same screen in the menu |
|---|---|---|
| Ctrl + Alt + K | Show Keyboard Shortcuts | Keyboard Shortcuts, near the bottom of the main menu |
| / | Focus Search | The search box in the top bar |
| Ctrl + Alt + H | Home | Home |
| Ctrl + Alt + F | Find Member | The older Find Member screen. For the newer search, use Members/Contacts, then the Search entry that has no Legacy tag. |
| Ctrl + Alt + M | Mail Room | The older Reports / Labels / Email screen. For the newer one, use Mailing, then the Labels / Emails entry that has no Legacy tag. |
| Ctrl + Alt + P | Add Payments | Financials, then Add Payments |
| Ctrl + Alt + V | Disbursement Authorizations | Financials, then Disbursement Authorizations |
| Ctrl + Alt + B | Budget | Financials, then Budget |
| Ctrl + Alt + L | Locals | Local Groups, then Locals |
| Ctrl + Alt + D | Districts | Group, then Districts |
Ctrl + Alt + F and Ctrl + Alt + M always open the older screens. If your organization doesn't use them, use the menu instead.
Some organizations use their own words for a few of these names.
How do I see the list of shortcuts?
Press Ctrl + Alt + K. You can also click the menu icon at the top left, then click Keyboard Shortcuts near the bottom of the main menu. For help with the menu, see Use the Menus to Get Around in M2.
What happened to Ctrl + Alt + T (Cash To Treasurer)?
M2 no longer has that shortcut. To get to the same place, click Financials, then Untransferred Funds. If your role can record finances, the green plus above the table starts a transfer. Its hover label is Cash To Treasurer.
Why does a shortcut do nothing?
Check these in order:
- If your cursor is in a box you type in, such as the search box or a form, click an empty part of the screen first, then press the shortcut.
- If you pressed Ctrl + Alt + P, V, or B, check your role. To change roles, see Switch Roles and Set Your Default Role.
- If you're working inside an older Classic screen, click the top bar or the main menu first, then press the shortcut. M2 can't see keys pressed inside the older screen's frame.
- If your role can't open the screen, M2 sends you to Home, sometimes with a message that you don't have permission. For example, Ctrl + Alt + D takes you to Home unless you're in a parent group role.
Where does the search shortcut take me?
Press the / key on any M2 screen to jump to the search box in the top bar. Your cursor lands in the box with any earlier search selected, so what you type replaces it. For everything the search box can do, see Use the Search Box at the Top of M2.
