Released September 2, 2026.
For local secretaries, treasurers, and anyone with financial access to a local in M2.
Your past entries are already under a General Fund and an Operating Account, so you can keep working the way you do now. One step is new. When you record a disbursement, choose the bank account it's paid from in the Drawn On box. It starts blank, even if your local has only one bank account. M2 won't save the disbursement until you choose one. Deposits go to your default bank account unless you pick another. Everything else is there when you're ready.
Words used here
- Fund: what the money is for, such as General, Building, or Charity.
- Bank account: where the money sits, such as checking or savings.
- Default: the bank account or fund M2 uses when you don't pick one.
- Deposit: payments you move to the treasurer and the bank. M2 calls it an Officer Funds Transfer.
- Disbursement: a payment your local makes, such as a check. Some groups call it a voucher.
- Untransferred funds: money received but not yet deposited.
- Starting balance date: the day an account's or fund's starting balance is counted. M2 records nothing on or before it.
What's New
Fund Accounting
Create named funds (Building Fund, Charity Fund, Scholarship Fund, or whatever your organization uses) and choose a fund for each line of a receipt or disbursement. Each fund has its own ledger and balance. Transfer money between funds when needed. A new Fund Reconciliation page checks that your funds add up to your bank accounts plus any money not yet deposited.
Default Funds and Fund Merger
Give an income or expense account a default fund so postings to that account land in the right fund automatically. Lines with no default go to your local's default fund, which starts as General Fund. To change it, open a fund and click Make Default Fund. If an import left you with duplicate funds, merge them from the Funds page and all of the history moves to the surviving fund.
Multiple Bank Accounts
Track more than one account per local: checking, savings, or an investment account or CD, which you track the same way as any other bank account. Each account has a name, an institution, and the last four digits. Deposits and disbursements tie to the right account, each with its own running ledger. Flag one as the default. Online payments always go to the default account. The default account can't be deleted or turned off. Make another account the default first.
Bank Account Transfers
Move money between accounts with a recorded transfer that shows up in both account ledgers automatically.
Disbursement Attachments
Attach invoices, vendor receipts, or quotes to a disbursement authorization. Documents stay with the record for audit.
Email Receipts
Email a receipt, as a PDF, to the person who paid. When that person has a default email address on file, an envelope icon appears next to each payment in their Payment History. Click it to send the receipt to that address.
Profit and Loss Report
Income and expense breakdown by account with drill-down detail for every line.
Starting Balance Protection
M2 now protects the starting balance date of each bank account and each fund. It won't let you record anything dated on or before that date: a payment, deposit, disbursement, transfer, or adjustment. Online deposits are the one exception for bank accounts, because they are always recorded. Say you set the date on or after the earliest entry. M2 then moves the date back to the day before that entry and changes the starting balance to match. To fix a wrong starting balance, see guide 33 below.
Follow-Up: Reports by Fund, Add Payment, and Clearer Account Names
Released September 9, 2026.
The Income & Expenses page, the Untransferred Funds page, and each Officer Funds Transfer page now break their totals down by fund. A member's Add Payments page now has a prominent Add Payment button, so recording a payment no longer means hunting for the link. Payment History shows each account by its own name, with the dues year where it applies. Point at the name to see the full account path. A Fund column shows the fund for each line.
Follow-Up: Every Deposit on a Bank Account
Released October 1, 2026.
Every deposit and disbursement is now on a bank account. Online payments go to your default account. When you record a deposit yourself, M2 picks the default account for you, and you can choose another. In Payment History, the Deposit column shows the bank account's name. It shows "Included in starting balances" when the deposit is already counted in a starting balance.
If a deposit went to the wrong account, move it. Don't cancel it and enter it again, because that counts the money twice.
- On your local's dashboard, click the Income & Expenses tab.
- In the Officer Funds Transfers card, click the date of the deposit.
- Click the pencil (Change Bank Account).
- Choose the right account.
- Click Save. The date, payments, and amount stay the same.
