What is Paying Dues Online?
Groupable|Connect lets you pay your dues to your local (the individual unit within your organization, such as a lodge, chapter, or local committee) from your computer, phone, or tablet. You can pay by card or, where your local allows it, straight from a bank account. When the payment goes through, Connect records it against your account right away and shows a confirmation you can print.
Not every local accepts online payments. If yours does not, Connect shows a message telling you so, and you can pay your secretary another way.
Before You Begin
- Log in to Connect with your member account. If your sign-in is not tied to your membership, the payment screen will not open — see "How to Log In to Connect."
- Your local must be set up to accept online payments.
- Have your card or bank account details nearby.
Getting Started / How to Access
There are three ways to reach the payment screen.
From a dues notice email. Open the dues email from your local, titled Dues Notice or Your Weekly Member Update, and click View & Pay Dues (or Pay My Dues). The link opens your local's page in Connect.
From your home feed. Log in, click My Feed in the menu on the left, and find the green Dues Owed box. It lists each membership where you owe dues, with the amount. Click Make A Payment next to the local you want to pay.
From your local's page. Log in, and under My Groups in the left menu click the name of your local. On the Home tab, the My Membership box shows your dues category, dues rate, and any Dues Owed. Click the green Make A Payment button near the top of the page.
Viewing Your Invoice
The payment screen is headed Make a Payment to followed by your local's name. What you owe appears in a table.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Description | What the charge is for, such as dues and the year or years it covers |
| Amount | The amount for that line |
| Subtotal | The total of the lines above, before any fees |
If your local is also collecting donations, you may see extra lines with a suggested amount. These are optional. Leave them blank if you do not want to give.
Choosing How Much to Pay
Connect fills in the full amount you owe. To pay the whole balance, leave the Amount as it is. To pay part of it now, type a smaller number in the Amount box; the rest stays on your account.
You cannot pay more than you owe. If you enter a higher number, Connect shows a message that the amount "must not be greater than the dues owed."
Choosing a Payment Method and Checking Fees
Below the amounts you will see two choices side by side: Credit for a credit card and Debit for a debit card. Each choice lists the fees that apply.
| Line | What it means |
|---|---|
| Platform Fee | A small fixed fee that supports Groupable |
| Cover Credit Card Fees / Cover Debit Card Fees | A switch. Turn it on to cover your local's processing cost yourself. Turn it off to leave that cost with your local. |
| Surcharge Amount | The processing cost that is added when the switch is on |
Some locals always add the processing cost. If yours does, the Surcharge Amount is listed with no switch to turn off. The large total at the bottom of each choice updates as you move the switch. That total is what you will be charged.
Entering Your Payment Information
- Click Pay by Credit Card or Pay by Debit Card.
- Connect sends you to a secure payment page run by our payment processor.
- Enter your card number, expiration date, security code, the name on the card, and your billing ZIP code. If your local offers bank payments, you can instead enter your account type, routing number, and account number.
- Enter your email address so the processor can send you its own receipt.
- Click the button to finish the payment.
Card payments are approved in a few seconds. Bank payments can take a few business days to clear.
Confirming Your Payment
When the payment is done, Connect brings you back to a Payment Details page.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Paid By | Your name |
| Date | The date of the payment |
| Amount | The total charged, including any fees |
| Checkout No | Your confirmation number |
This page is your receipt. To keep a copy, print it from your browser: press Ctrl + P (Cmd + P on a Mac), or use the browser's Print menu. Note the Checkout No — it is your proof of payment if you ever need to ask about the charge. Your local also receives a record of every online payment, and your secretary can send you an official receipt on request.
Tips
- The quickest route is My Feed. The green Dues Owed box shows every membership where you owe money, each with its own Make A Payment button.
- You can check your balance first. Your local's page shows Dues Owed in the My Membership box before you open the payment screen.
- Each local is billed on its own. If you belong to more than one local, pay each one from its own page or its own line in the Dues Owed box.
Troubleshooting
Q: There is no Make A Payment button on my local's page. A: Your local may not accept online payments yet, or you may be signed in with an account that is not linked to your membership. If you see "this group is not accepting online payments," contact your secretary to pay another way.
Q: Connect says my account does not support payments. A: Your Connect sign-in is not connected to your membership record. Ask your secretary to link them, then sign in again.
Q: Connect says I do not owe any dues. A: Your local's records show you are paid up, or the dues for the new year have not been added yet. Check with your secretary if you think this is wrong.
Q: I paid, but my local's page still shows a balance. A: Bank payments take a few business days to clear. Card payments post right away, but the page may need a refresh. Your Payment Details page and Checkout No are your proof in the meantime.
Q: I clicked the pay button twice. Was I charged twice? A: No. Connect records only one payment for each invoice. If you return to the payment link, it shows the payment you already made.
