What Are Comments?
Comments let members respond to a post or an event on Connect. You can add a comment, reply to another member's comment, edit the wording of a comment you posted, or delete one. Comments appear at the bottom of the post or event, below the content itself.
Getting Started / How to Access
- From your Connect home feed, or from a group's News page, find the post you want.
- Click the post title or the Read more button to open the full post.
- Scroll to the bottom. The comment area sits below the post, under a heading that shows the current count — for example, 3 Comments.
Events work the same way. Open the event, then scroll down to the comment area. You have to be logged in to comment. If you are not, Connect shows Log in to join the conversation where the comment box would be.
Adding a Comment
- Find the box marked What's on your mind?. Just above it, Connect shows Posting as followed by your name, so you can see how the comment will be signed.
- Click in the box and type your comment.
- Click Post.
Your comment appears at the bottom of the list right away. To empty the box without posting, click Cancel.
Replying to a Comment
A reply attaches your response to one particular comment instead of adding it to the bottom of the list.
- Find the comment you want to respond to.
- Click Reply below it.
- Type your response in the box that opens.
- Click Reply again to post it.
Your reply appears indented under the original comment, marked with a small arrow. Click Cancel if you decide not to post it.
Editing Your Comment
You can change the wording of your own comments at any time. There is no time limit.
- Below your comment, click Edit.
- The comment opens in an editable box under the heading Editing comment.
- Change the text.
- Click Update to save, or Cancel to leave the comment as it was.
After you save a change, a small edited note with the time appears under the comment. Other members can see that a comment was edited, but not what it said before.
Deleting Your Comment
- Below your comment, click Delete.
- Connect asks Are you sure you want to delete this?
- Click OK to confirm.
The comment disappears from the page. Deleting is permanent — there is no undo, and Connect does not keep a copy. If you only need to fix a mistake, edit the comment instead. If your comment has replies, deleting it also removes those replies.
Tips
- Edit for small fixes. Delete to remove a comment entirely. Editing keeps the conversation and any replies in place.
- Webmasters can edit or remove any comment, not only their own. If a comment needs to come down and it is not yours, ask a webmaster for your group.
- Your name must be visible in Connect for you to comment. This is set by the Show my name option on your Connect privacy settings page.
Troubleshooting
Q: There is no box to type a comment. A: Check that you are logged in. If you see Comments disabled for this post, the member who created the post did not turn comments on, and no one can add them. If you are logged in and see no message at all, open your Connect privacy settings and turn on Show my name — your name has to be visible in Connect before you can comment.
Q: I clicked Post but nothing happened. A: An empty comment will not post. Connect shows Write something before commenting. Type some text, then click Post again.
Q: I get a message that my comment is already posted. A: Connect does not accept the exact same comment text twice on the same post. Reword it, or check whether your first comment already went through.
Q: A comment has no Edit or Delete link. A: You can only edit or delete comments you posted yourself. On another member's comment you see Reply but not Edit or Delete. If one of your own comments is missing those links, refresh the page and confirm you are logged in.
