This guide helps you find your local group's events (the local group is the individual unit of your organization where you hold membership, such as a chapter or council), tell the organizer whether you're coming, and pay if the event has a cost. It also explains the emails you may get about an event.
In this article:
- See your local group's events
- See events from all the groups you follow
- Open an event's page
- RSVP to an event
- Change your answer
- Pay for an event
- Add an event to your own calendar
- Emails about events
See your local group's events
Anyone can open a group's Calendar, even without logging in. A visitor who isn't logged in sees only events marked Public. You see more once you log in. To learn why you may not see an event, see Use Your Group's Page. To log in, see Log In for the First Time.
On a phone
-
Tap the menu icon (three short lines) at the top of the screen.
-
Under My Groups, tap your local group.
-
Tap the menu icon again.
-
Under your local group's name, tap Calendar.
Your local group's page also has an Upcoming Events list. On a phone, tap an event there to open its page. Tap the arrow at the top right of that list to open the full Calendar.
On a computer
- In the left menu, under My Groups, click your local group's name.
- Click the Calendar tab near the top of the page.
If the left menu isn't showing, click the menu icon (three short lines) at the top left of the page.
The calendar lists events by date. Tap or click an event to open its page. The buttons at the top move you to earlier or later dates, jump back to today, and switch between a list and a month grid.
A district's, region's or group's calendar also shows events from the local groups under it. Each event's title starts with the name of the group holding it.
If you don't see this
If the calendar is empty, or an event you were told about isn't there, ask your secretary. The event may not be posted yet, or it may be limited to members of a different group.
See events from all the groups you follow
My Calendar puts the events from every group you follow in one list, soonest first. Each event is a card with a Read More button and, if you can RSVP, an RSVP button. You need to be logged in.
On a phone
- Tap the menu icon (three short lines) at the top of the screen.
- Under My links, tap My Calendar.
On a computer
- In the left menu, click My Calendar.
Each card shows the name of the group that is holding the event. Tap or click Read More, or the event's name, to open the event's page.
To change which groups you follow, see Choose What Connect Sends You.
If you don't see this
If My Calendar says "No upcoming events in your groups," you may not be following a group, or your groups haven't posted events. Following a group is explained in Choose What Connect Sends You. If you can't find My Calendar at all, ask your secretary.
Open an event's page
Every event has its own page. You can open it from the Calendar, from My Calendar, from your local group's page, or from the button in an event email.
The page shows:
- The event's name.
- The date and time.
- RSVP by and a date, if the organizer set one.
- The location.
- The price per person, if the event has a cost.
- A description, and photos if the organizer added them.
- Comments, if the organizer turned them on. To comment, see Use Your Group's Page.
- A Location card with a map. On a phone, scroll down to find it.
If an event is canceled, its name starts with "Canceled:", its date has a line through it, and the RSVP and Add to my Calendar buttons are gone.
Once you're logged in and someone has answered, the page also shows an Attendees list with two tabs, I'm Going and Can't Go. Each tab shows a count. A name appears in the list only if that member has Show My Name turned on under In Connect. Everyone else is counted as "and 3 more," for example. To change your own setting, see Your Profile and Privacy.
RSVP to an event
An RSVP tells the organizer whether you're coming and how many guests you're bringing. It helps them plan seats, food and materials. Answer by the RSVP by date on the event's page.
You need to be logged in with a login that is linked to your membership. A visitor who isn't logged in sees no RSVP button.
-
Open the event's page. You can also use the RSVP button on the event's card in My Calendar. On a computer, the cards on your local group's page have one too.
-
Tap or click the green RSVP button. If the event has a cost, the button shows the price, such as RSVP $25.00.
-
A window opens with the date and time, and the RSVP by date if there is one. Choose I'm Going or Can't Go.
-
If you chose I'm Going and the organizer allows guests, a Guests box appears. Use the plus and minus buttons to enter how many people you're bringing, not counting yourself.
-
Tap or click Confirm.
If the event has a cost, step 5 is different. The window shows the price per person and a Subtotal that updates as you change Guests. See Pay for an event for what to tap.
After you answer, a message on the screen confirms it. The green RSVP button changes to show your answer, I'm Going or Can't Go, with a plus and a number if you're bringing guests. Connect doesn't send a confirmation email.
If Connect can't save your answer, it shows the reason under the I'm Going and Can't Go buttons. For example, it may say "No seats available," "Only 2 seats are still available," or "RSVP is closed."
When an event is close to full, its card shows "Only 3 seats remaining," for example, and "SOLD OUT" when it is full.
If you don't see this
If you can log in but never see an RSVP button on any event, your login may not be linked to your membership. If the button is missing on one event, the event may be full, canceled, or past its RSVP by date. In every case, ask your secretary.
Change your answer
You can change your answer or your number of guests. If the organizer set an RSVP by date, the button is gone after that date and you can't make changes. Contact the organizer if your plans change then. If you don't know who the organizer is, ask your secretary.
- Open the event's page.
- Tap or click your answer button. It reads I'm Going or Can't Go, with a plus and a number if you have guests.
- In the window, change Guests, or switch from Can't Go to I'm Going.
- Tap or click Update RSVP. If the event has a cost and you chose I'm Going, the window shows Pay Later and Pay Now instead. See Pay for an event.
To switch to Can't Go on an event that is free, follow the same steps, choose Can't Go, and tap or click Update RSVP.
If an event has a cost and you need to cancel, contact the organizer.
If you don't see this
If your answer button is missing, the RSVP by date has probably passed, or the event is canceled. Ask your secretary.
Pay for an event
Some events charge a price per person. You pay for yourself and for each guest. You can pay when you RSVP or come back to pay later.
You need to be logged in with a login that is linked to your membership. Online payment works only when your local group takes online payments.
Pay when you RSVP
- Open the event's page and tap or click the green RSVP button. It shows the price.
- Choose I'm Going and set Guests. Check the Subtotal.
- Tap or click one of these:
- Pay Now to go straight to the payment screen.
- Pay Later to save your RSVP and pay before the event.
- Confirm, if you see only that button. The organizer requires payment with your RSVP, so Connect takes you to the payment screen.
- On the payment screen, check the event and the amount. The screen is titled "Make a Payment to" and your local group's name. It reminds you that event payments are non-refundable.
- Tap or click Pay by Credit Card or Pay by Debit Card.
- Enter your card details on the secure payment page that opens. Stripe, the company that handles the card payment, runs that page.
- Stay on the page until a Payment Details page appears. Don't close the window before then.
Pay later
If you chose Pay Later, or left the payment screen without paying, your RSVP is saved but not paid.
- Open the event's page.
- Tap or click the green Complete Payment button next to your answer.
- Follow steps 4 to 7 above.
If you owe for more than one event at the same local group, the payment screen lists them all and you pay for them in one payment. The amounts are fixed. For how the fees on the payment screen work, see Pay Your Dues or Make a Donation.
If you add guests after you've paid, the extra guests show as owed and Complete Payment appears again.
If you don't see this
If you owe money for an event but there is no Complete Payment button, your local group may not be taking online payments right now. Ask your secretary how to pay.
If you paid but Complete Payment still shows, contact your secretary and send the payment email or bank record you have. If you need to cancel an event that has a cost, contact the organizer.
Add an event to your own calendar
Add to my Calendar gives you the event as a file you can open in the calendar app on your phone or computer. The file holds the event's name, start and end time, location and a short description. It's a one-time copy of the event as it is now. Adding it doesn't RSVP you.
- Open the event's page.
- Tap or click Add to my Calendar, next to the RSVP button.
- Open the file your device gives you. Your calendar app asks you to save the event.
What you see in step 3 depends on your device and the calendar app you use.
If you don't see this
The button isn't shown for canceled events. If you don't see it on an event that is still on, ask your secretary.
Emails about events
Connect doesn't send event emails by itself. The organizer chooses when to send an Invitation or a Reminder. Connect also sends an email when the organizer cancels an event and when the organizer brings it back. The emails come from the name of the group that is holding the event.
| The email's subject starts with | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Invitation: | A new event. It shows the date, time and place, and the cost if there is one. It has an RSVP & More button. |
| Reminder: | A reminder about the event. It has the same details and the same RSVP & More button. |
| Canceled: | A red notice says "This event has been canceled. Contact the organizer with any questions." |
| Back On: | A green notice says "This event is back on. Contact the organizer with any questions." |
The organizer may add a note at the top. To RSVP from an Invitation or a Reminder, click RSVP & More. It opens the event's page, and you may be asked to log in. The Invitation and Reminder emails also have a calendar file attached. Open it to add the event to your calendar.
You get these emails if you are a current member of the group that is holding the event and Allow Email is on for that group. If you answered Can't Go, you don't get later emails about that event. Following a group doesn't send you its event emails. To turn Allow Email on or off, see Choose What Connect Sends You.
If you don't see this
If you expected an event email and didn't get one, first check your spam folder. Then ask your secretary to check the email address Connect has for you, and to tell you whether the organizer sent one.
