Open the payment screen
You need a Connect login that is linked to your membership. Your local group must also accept online payments. If you need help logging in, see Get Started with Connect or Reset Your Password When You Can't Log In.
There are three ways to reach the payment screen.
From My Feed
- Log in to Connect.
- On a phone, tap the menu icon (three short lines) at the top left. Under My links, tap My Feed. On a computer, click My Feed in the menu on the left.
- Find the box called Dues Owed. On a phone, it is near the top of the page. On a computer, it is in the column on the right. It lists your local group with an amount in parentheses.
- Tap or click Make A Payment next to your local group.
If you belong to more than one local group, each one has its own line in the box and its own payment. Pay each from its own line.
From your local group's page
- Log in to Connect.
- On a phone, tap the menu icon at the top left. Under My Groups, tap the name of your local group. On a computer, click the name of your local group under My Groups in the menu on the left.
- Find the Make A Payment button below the group's picture and tap or click it.
On this page, the My Membership box shows what you owe. If you owe dues, it lists Dues Owed with an amount for each year.
From the weekly email
Your Weekly Member Update email has a section called Dues Information. It lists what your records show you owe, one line for each local group and year. It is for your information only and is not an official dues notice.
- Open the email.
- Next to the line you want to pay, tap or click Pay My Dues.
- Log in to Connect if you are asked to.
To learn why you receive this email and which day it comes, see Choose What Connect Sends You. A dues notice from your secretary also leads here. See Dues notices and receipts from your secretary.
If you don't see this: Not every local group accepts online payments. If you don't see Make A Payment, or the weekly email shows View My Dues in place of Pay My Dues, ask your secretary how to pay another way. You may also see one of these messages:
- We're sorry, this group is not accepting online payments. Your local group does not take online payments yet. Ask your secretary how to pay.
- Your user account does not support payments. Your Connect login is not linked to a membership record. Ask your secretary to check it.
- You don't owe any dues and this group is not currently accepting donations means your local group's records show nothing owed, and no donation options are set up. If you think you do owe dues, ask your secretary.
Pay your dues
You need to be a member of the local group, with dues owed, and your local group must accept online payments.
The payment screen opens with the heading Make a Payment to and your local group's name. A table shows what you are paying.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Description | What the line is for. For dues, it shows your dues and the years they cover. |
| Amount | The amount for that line. For dues, Connect fills in everything you owe. |
| Subtotal | The total of the lines above, before any fees. |
- Open the payment screen. See Open the payment screen.
- Check the Amount for your dues line. To pay everything you owe, leave it as it is. To pay part now, type a smaller amount.
- Scroll down to the Credit and Debit sections. On a phone, Credit is first and Debit is below it. On a computer, they sit side by side. Each section shows a large total. That total is the amount your card is charged.
- Tap or click Pay by Credit Card if you are paying with a credit card. Tap or click Pay by Debit Card if you are paying with a debit card.
- Connect opens a secure payment page run by Stripe, the company that handles the card payment for Groupable. It shows your total as Total Due. Enter your card details and finish the payment.
- Wait until Connect brings you back to a page called Payment Details. Do not close the window before then.
When Connect brings you back, it records your payment and takes the amount off what you owe.
Paying part of what you owe
You can pay less than the full amount. The rest stays owed, and you can pay it later. A part-payment goes toward your oldest dues first.
You can't pay more than you owe. If you type a larger amount, Connect shows a message saying the amount must not be greater than the dues owed, followed by what you owe.
Understand the fees and the cover-fees switches
Card payments cost money to process. Each of the Credit and Debit sections shows what is added to your total.
| Line | What it means |
|---|---|
| Platform Fee | A small flat fee that goes to Groupable. It is the same on every payment. |
| Cover Credit Card Fees or Cover Debit Card Fees | A switch. When it is on, the card processing cost is added to your total. When it is off, it is not. |
| Surcharge Amount | The card processing cost that is added to your total when the switch is on. |
Both switches start in the on position. If you turn a switch off, Surcharge Amount disappears and the total drops. The card processing cost then comes out of your local group's payment instead of being added to yours. Either way, your full dues amount is credited to you.
Some local groups always add the credit card cost. In that case, the Credit section shows Surcharge Amount with no switch. The Cover Debit Card Fees switch always appears in the Debit section.
For worked examples with dollar amounts, see Stripe Processing fees: what they are and who pays them.
Make a donation
A donation is a gift to a local group. Your local group chooses which donation options to offer. You need a Connect login linked to your membership, and the local group must accept online payments.
Donation options appear on the same payment screen as dues. Each one shows its name in the Description column. If your local group suggests an amount, a hint reads Suggested amount followed by the amount. If you owe dues, you can pay your dues and give a donation in one payment.
- Open the local group's page. Local groups you belong to or follow are under My Groups in the menu. On a phone, tap the menu icon at the top left first.
- Tap or click the button below the group's picture. It says Make A Donation if you are not a member of this local group. It says Make A Payment if you are.
- In the table, type the amount you want to give in the Amount box on a donation line. Leave the box empty on any option you don't want to give to.
- Choose Pay by Credit Card or Pay by Debit Card and finish as described in Pay your dues. The fees work the same way. See Understand the fees and the cover-fees switches.
If you don't see this: Donation options appear only if your local group has set them up. If you see none, or if you see the message You don't owe any dues and this group is not currently accepting donations, ask your secretary.
After you pay: Payment Details
When your payment goes through, Connect brings you back to the Payment Details page. This page is your record of the payment.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Paid By | Your name. |
| Date | The date of the payment. |
| Recorded | The date Connect recorded it. |
| Amount | The total your card was charged, including any fees. |
| Receipt Type | The kind of receipt Connect made. |
| Checkout No | The confirmation code for your payment. |
Below these, the Line Items table lists what the payment covered. It also lists the Platform Fee and any Surcharge.
Save or print this page before you leave it. Connect does not give you a way back to it, and it does not send a confirmation email after an online payment.
- On a phone, take a screenshot.
- On a computer, press Ctrl + P (Cmd + P on a Mac) to print the page or save it as a PDF.
Keep the Checkout No. It helps your secretary find the payment if you ever have a question about it.
See your past payments
My Profile lists the payments recorded for you, including ones your secretary recorded. It also shows what you still owe.
-
Log in to Connect.
-
On a phone, tap the menu icon at the top left. Under My links, tap My Profile. On a computer, click My Profile in the menu on the left.
-
Scroll down to the My Payments table.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Date | The date of the payment. |
| To | The local group that received it. |
| Amount | What the payment covered, with a note in parentheses. For dues, the note includes the dues year. |
The Amount here does not include the Platform Fee or Surcharge. It can be lower than the Amount on your Payment Details page.
The My Local Memberships table on the same page shows your current local group memberships. Paid Through is the latest year that a dues payment recorded for you covers, or N/A if there is none. Dues Owed is what you owe now.
If you don't see this: My Profile appears only when your Connect login is linked to your membership. If you can't find it, ask your secretary.
Dues notices and receipts from your secretary
Your secretary can email you two things. Both come from your secretary, not from Connect on its own.
Dues notice
A dues notice email is headed Dues Notice. It has a Your Dues Summary section and a PDF copy attached.
- Open the email.
- Tap or click View & Pay Dues. Connect opens your local group's page.
- Log in if you are asked to.
- Tap or click Make A Payment. Then follow Pay your dues.
If the button says View My Dues instead, your local group does not accept online payments. Ask your secretary how to pay. If the amounts look wrong, contact your secretary.
Receipt
A receipt email has a subject that starts with Receipt from and your local group's name, then the date. The receipt is attached as a PDF.
Connect does not send this email by itself after you pay online. If you want an official receipt by email, ask your secretary to send one. To learn how to reach your secretary, see Contact Your Lodge or Group.
If you paid but still see dues owed
If you paid online and your dues still show as owed, contact your secretary. Tell them:
- the date and amount of the payment
- the Checkout No from your Payment Details page, if you saved it
- or the charge on your card or bank statement
Your secretary can look into it. Do not pay a second time until you have heard from your secretary.
To avoid this, wait for the Payment Details page to appear before you close the window.
