This guide helps you send a message to your local group (the individual unit of your organization where you hold membership, such as a chapter or council) from Connect, and follow up on it afterward. It also explains what to do when you get an answer by email.

Send a message to your local group
You need to be logged in. If you haven't logged in yet, see Log In for the First Time.
Every local group's page in Connect has a Contact Us link. The form you see depends on how your organization has set up Connect. You may see a form with Name and Your Email Address boxes, or a shorter form with only Subject and Message. The steps are the same.
On a phone
-
Tap the menu icon (three short lines) at the top of the screen.
-
Under My Groups, tap your local group.
-
Tap the menu icon again.
-
Under your local group's name, tap Contact Us.
-
Fill in the form. If Name and Your Email Address are already filled in, check that they are right.
-
Tap Send.
On a computer
- In the left menu, under My Groups, click your local group's name.
- Click the Contact Us tab near the top of the page.
- Fill in the form. If Name and Your Email Address are already filled in, check that they are right.
- Click Send.
If a box is empty or wrong, the page stays open and shows Please correct the error(s) below. Fix the boxes it marks, then click Send again.
If your local group isn't under My Groups, see Find Your Way Around Connect for how to find it.
If you don't see this
If you see a message that your local group "does not have a contact on file," Connect has no email address for it yet. Ask your secretary to look into it, and reach them another way in the meantime, such as by phone or at your next meeting.
What happens after you send it
What you see next depends on which form you used.
If your form had Name and Your Email Address boxes
- Connect takes you back to your local group's page and shows Message sent at the top.
- Your message goes by email to the email address your local group has on file in Connect.
- The answer comes to the email address you entered in the form.
Connect doesn't send you a copy of your message, so keep your own note of what you asked. A message sent this way doesn't appear in My Requests.
If your form had only Subject and Message boxes
- Connect opens a page titled Inquiry Received. It shows your subject and the words "Your inquiry has been received. You'll receive email updates as staff responds."
- Click Back to return to your local group's page.
- Answers come to you by email. You can also read them in My Requests.
If you don't hear back
Contact your secretary another way, such as by phone or at your next meeting.
Check a request in My Requests
My Requests lists your requests to your local group and the conversation about each one.
On a computer:
-
Click your name at the top right of the screen.
-
Click My Requests.
The page has two lists. Active Requests holds requests that are New, Open or Pending. Past Requests holds requests that are Resolved or Closed. Each row shows the request's number, subject, status and the date it was received.
If you have no requests yet, the page says "You haven't submitted any requests yet."
Read a request and add to it
- In My Requests, click the subject of the request.
- Read your Original Message. Below it, the Conversation shows each reply in order. Replies from staff carry a Staff badge.
- To add something, type in the Send Follow-Up box and click Send Follow-Up. Connect shows "Your follow-up has been sent."
Mark a request as resolved
If you got what you needed, you can tell your local group the request is finished.
- Open the request.
- Click Mark as Resolved.
- Click to confirm when Connect asks "Are you sure?"
The request moves to Past Requests. If you send a follow-up on a resolved request, it reopens.
If a request shows Closed, you can't add to it. Use Contact Us to start a new message. To go back to the list from a request, click Back to My Requests.
If you don't see this
If a request you sent isn't in the list, or you can't find My Requests, ask your secretary.
Reply to an answer from your email
When your local group answers a request, you get an email. Its subject includes the subject of your request. Inside, it says You have a new response and shows the answer. The email goes to the email address on file for you.
- Open the email.
- Click View this conversation and reply.
- A page opens with your subject and the whole conversation. Your own messages are marked You.
- Type your answer in the box under Reply.
- Click Send Reply. The page shows "Your reply has been sent."
You don't need to log in to use this page. The link in the email works for 72 hours (three days). After that, the page says "Sorry, this link has expired." You can still read and answer the request from My Requests.
Good to know
- Contact Us reaches your local group. For a question about Connect itself, see Open the Help Widget.
- Anyone who has the link in a You have a new response email can read the conversation and reply to it. Don't forward the email.
