This guide is for anyone who has just logged in to M2 and is looking for a screen. M2 gives you four ways to move around: the menu icon at the top left, the search box in the middle of the top bar, the grid of squares near the top right, and your name at the top right.
Before you start
You need to be logged in. If you haven't logged in yet, see Log In for the First Time.
What's in the top bar
M2 screens have a bar across the top. The menu icon (three short lines) is at the far left. Next to it, a small house icon and the M2 logo take you back to your home screen. After the logo, M2 shows the title of the screen you're on.
In the middle is a search box with the hint Search by name, number, phone or email. Once you've typed three characters, a list of matching members, local groups, districts, and regions opens under the box. If you're not on a phone, a question mark icon next to the box opens Search Help, a window with examples of what you can type.
On the right you'll find a globe icon for language, the grid of squares for switching apps, and your name. A download icon also appears there, about 20 seconds after a page opens, while a finished download is waiting for you. Click it to see your downloads.
Open the main menu
-
Click the menu icon (three short lines) at the top left of the screen. The menu opens along the left side of the screen. If the screen you're on has a place in the menu, its section is already open and the screen is highlighted.
-
If the section you want is already open, its screens are showing, so go to step 3. Clicking its heading closes the list. Otherwise, click a heading that has a list under it, such as Members/Contacts. The screens in that section appear underneath.
- Click the screen you want.
Opening one section closes the one that was open. Some entries, such as Home, Directory, Todos, and Reports, have no list. They take you straight to their screen.
To close the menu without choosing anything, click the menu icon again or click anywhere outside the menu. Opening and closing the menu changes nothing in your records, so you can look around freely.
At the bottom of the menu, M2 shows the name of your parent group (the organization above your local groups, such as a state or national body). If you're working in a local role, it also shows the name of your local group (the individual unit of your organization, such as a chapter or council). That's a quick way to check where you're working.
What you see depends on your role
M2 builds the menu from your roles and the features your organization uses, so two people in the same local group can see different menus. If you have more than one role in your parent group, Admin, Local Groups, and Mailing can show because of a role you aren't using at the moment. My Local and Financials don't work that way. They show only for the role you're using.
For example, you see My Local when the role you're using is a local role that can view your local group's information, and Financials when the role you're using is a local role that can view your local group's finances. Local Groups needs a role that can view parent group information. Admin shows only if one of your roles is an administrator role for your parent group. Financials and Local Groups also need your organization to use those features.
Some organizations use their own words for a few entries. The Group entry, for example, can carry a different name.
Find help, training, and release notes
Help and training entries sit at the bottom of the main menu.
Help opens a short list with About and Help Center. About shows the copyright and trademark notice. Help Center opens the help center in a new tab.
Training Schedule opens the schedule of live training sessions in a new tab.
Video Training opens a screen of training videos inside M2. Near the bottom of the main menu, above the group names, a Helpful Videos box links to short videos that open on YouTube.
Release Notes opens Groupable Release Notes in a new tab. It lists recent changes. Keyboard Shortcuts opens a table of key combinations for common screens and actions.
If you're the account owner for your organization, you may also see Terms of Service at the bottom.
Switch to another app
M2 is one of several Groupable apps. The grid of squares, also called the app switcher, takes you between them. It appears only when you can open two or more apps.
Every app in the grid also needs your organization to use it. Beyond that, which apps you see depends on your access:
- m2 shows when the role you're using is a parent group, region, district, or local role.
- Raiser shows when one of your roles in your parent group has fundraising write access, which lets you make changes in Raiser.
- Connect shows for every role.
- Inbox shows when one of your roles in your parent group has Inbox access.
- Credentials shows when one of your roles in your parent group has Credentials read access, which lets you view Credentials.
- Store shows when the role you're using is a parent group or local role.
To switch to another app:
-
Click the grid of squares in the top bar, to the left of your name.
-
Click the app you want.
In the grid, Store carries a BETA tag, and so does Raiser when it shows.
Open your account menu
-
On a phone or a narrow window, your name isn't in the top bar. Tap the menu icon at the top left, scroll to the bottom of the menu, and tap your name there. The same choices open underneath it. Otherwise, click your name at the top right.
-
Click the choice you want.
You always see My Account, My Downloads, and Log Out. The other choices depend on whether your account belongs to a person in your organization's records. If it does, you also see My Requests. If your organization handles requests through Groupable, it lists the ones you've sent and where each one stands. If your organization uses Connect, you also see My Connect Feed and My Connect Profile, which open in a new tab. If you're a member, you also see My Member Record.
Below those choices, M2 lists your roles under headings that name where you hold them. The role you're using is in bold. To switch roles or choose the role you start with, see Switch Roles and Set Your Default Role.
At the end, a My Apps heading lists the same apps as the grid of squares. It appears only when the grid does.
To change your username or password, see Update Your Account Settings.
Change the language
- Click the globe icon in the top bar.
- Click the language you want. The list includes English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese.
The screen reloads in that language, and M2 remembers your choice.
Return to your home screen on a phone
On a phone or a narrow window, the top bar has less room, so the house icon and the M2 logo leave it. Tap the menu icon (three short lines), then tap Home in the main menu to return to your home screen.
If something isn't where you expect
An entry is missing from the main menu
Check which role you're using. Open your account menu and look for the role in bold. If another role has what you need, switch to it. The roles guide linked under Open your account menu, above, explains how. If none of your roles does, ask the person who looks after user accounts in your organization to check your role's permissions and whether your organization uses that feature.
The menu shows only a spinning circle
M2 loads the menu the first time you point at the menu icon or click it. If the load fails, M2 tries again the next time you do either one. Close the menu and open it again. If it still spins, reload the page. If M2 shows the login screen, log in again.
The grid of squares, or an app in it, is missing
The checks under An entry is missing from the main menu, above, apply here too.
The screen is in a language you can't read
Click the globe icon again. Each language is also listed in its own words, so look for the word English. Click it and the screen reloads in English.
