Groupable|Connect Privacy Settings
What Are Privacy Settings?
Privacy settings let you control who can see your photo, name, phone number, and email address on Groupable|Connect. You decide what other logged-in members can see, and separately, what the general public can see on pages Connect makes available to visitors who are not logged in.
Getting Started
- Log in to Groupable|Connect.
- From the main menu, click My Profile.
- Scroll to the card titled groupable|connect Privacy Settings.
You will see a small table with four rows – Show My Photo, Show My Name, Show My Phone, and Show My Email – and two columns, In Connect and Publicly.
Understanding “In Connect” vs. “Publicly”
Each row in the Privacy Settings table has two switches:
| Column | What It Controls |
|---|---|
| In Connect | Whether other members who are logged in to Connect can see this information about you. |
| Publicly | Whether this information appears on pages Connect shows to the public – people who are not logged in and may not even be members. |
The Publicly switch only works if the matching In Connect switch is turned on. If you turn off In Connect for an item, the Publicly switch for that same item is automatically turned off too and cannot be turned back on until In Connect is on again. This makes sense – if members cannot see something about you, the general public should not be able to either.
Changing a Privacy Setting
- From the main menu, click My Profile.
- In the groupable|connect Privacy Settings card, click the switch next to the item you want to change (Photo, Name, Phone, or Email), in either the In Connect or Publicly column.
- Your change saves automatically. A short confirmation message appears letting you know your privacy settings were saved.
There is no separate Save button to click – your choice takes effect as soon as you toggle the switch.
Showing Your Name and Commenting
Show My Name works a little differently than the other three settings. Groupable|Connect requires your name to be visible to other members before you can comment on posts. This is because anonymous comments are not allowed – if members cannot see who is commenting, you will not be able to participate in discussions.
If you turn off Show My Name (In Connect):
- You will no longer be able to leave new comments.
- Any comments you have already made will be hidden from view.
If you turn Show My Name back on, you can comment again, and your past comments become visible once more.
Tips / Good to Know
- These settings apply to your photo, name, phone, and email everywhere they would normally appear across Connect – for example, on group member lists and pages other members and visitors can see.
- Turning a setting off does not delete your information from your member record. Officers and administrators managing your group’s records in Groupable|m2 can still see your contact information there regardless of your Connect privacy settings.
- Changes save instantly, so you can toggle a switch, check the confirmation message, and move on.
Troubleshooting
I turned off “Show My Name” and now I can’t comment
This is expected. Your name must be visible to other members (In Connect switch for Show My Name) before you can post comments. Turn that switch back on to comment again.
The “Publicly” switch won’t turn on
Check the matching In Connect switch for that same item first. The Publicly switch stays off until In Connect is turned on.
I don’t see a confirmation message after changing a setting
Try refreshing the page and making the change again. If the problem continues, contact your webmaster for help.
