Contact Preferences
What Are Contact Preferences?
Contact preferences let you control whether you follow a group’s activity in Groupable|Connect, and whether that group can reach you by email or postal mail. You set these preferences separately for each group you belong to.
Getting Started
- Log in to Groupable|Connect.
- From the main menu, click My Profile.
- Scroll to the card titled My Group Preferences.
You will see a row for each local you belong to (or previously belonged to and chose to keep following), with switches for Follow, Allow Email, and Allow Postal Mail.
Understanding Your Group Preferences
| Setting | What It Controls |
|---|---|
| Follow | Whether you continue to see this local’s posts, events, and activity in Connect. |
| Allow Email | Whether this local can send you email communications. |
| Allow Postal Mail | Whether this local can send you postal mail. |
Follow is especially useful if your membership at a local is no longer active – for example, if you moved, resigned, or demitted – but you would still like to keep up with that local’s activity in Connect. Turning Follow on keeps that local in your list even though you are no longer an active member there.
Allow Email and Allow Postal Mail can only be changed for locals where you currently have an active membership. If your membership at a local is inactive, these two switches are grayed out and cannot be changed for that local.
Changing Your Preferences
- From the main menu, click My Profile.
- Find the local in the My Group Preferences card.
- Click the switch for Follow, Allow Email, or Allow Postal Mail to turn it on or off.
- Your change saves automatically. A short confirmation message appears letting you know your preferences for that local were saved.
There is no separate Save button – your choice takes effect as soon as you toggle the switch.
Unsubscribing from an Email
Every email you receive from Groupable|Connect includes an Unsubscribe link at the bottom. Clicking it takes you to an Email Subscriptions page where you can turn off email from any of your locals without needing to log in.
- Open any email you received from Connect.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Unsubscribe.
- On the Email Subscriptions page, find the local you want to stop hearing from.
- Turn off the Allow Email switch for that local.
This page shows a partially hidden version of your email address so you can confirm it is the right account, and your change saves automatically. If you have an online account, you can also sign in from this page to manage all of your preferences and other account details in one place.
Tips / Good to Know
- Preferences are set per local, not for your whole account – if you belong to more than one local, you can allow email from one and turn it off for another.
- Turning off Allow Email does not remove you as a member – it only stops email communications from that local through Connect.
- The unsubscribe link in an email is valid for a limited time. If it has expired, log in to Connect directly and go to My Profile to manage your preferences instead.
Troubleshooting
I can’t change Allow Email or Allow Postal Mail for a local
These switches are only available for locals where you have an active membership. If your membership there is inactive, contact your local’s secretary if you believe this is incorrect.
The unsubscribe link in my email doesn’t work
The link may have expired. Log in to Groupable|Connect directly, go to My Profile, and update your preferences in the My Group Preferences card instead.
I’m still receiving email after turning off Allow Email
Changes save automatically, but it can take a moment for the confirmation message to appear. Refresh the page and check that the switch is still off. If you continue receiving email after that, contact your webmaster.
Need Help?
Contact your local’s secretary or your webmaster if:
- You are not receiving expected email from your local.
- You are still receiving email after unsubscribing.
- Your changes will not save.
